What is a Disconnect?

A disconnect is something that every off road enthusiast should know about.  It basically is a part that enables you to disconnect the sway bar links quickly and easily.  The sway bar enables transference of torsion across the axle when the vehicle makes turns at a high speed.  Since you don’t do this often when off road, you really don’t need this.  What you do need is the added independent suspension control that you get when you use the disconnect.

Quicker Disconnects

Disconnects are a part of great necessity to any serious off road driver.  This part enables you to disconnect the sway bar from the axle.  The sway bar basically allows transference of torsion from one side of the vehicle to the other when turning sharp corners.  When off road driving, this is not necessary and can actually be detrimental to the quality of your ride.  Everybody knows that when you are off road, you need maximum control of each of your tires. What is a Suspension?

Track Bars

For those of you who are not in the know, a track bar is a part of a vehicle’s suspension system.  It is also called a Panhard bar because its origins are the Panhard Company in France.  Its purpose is to provide lateral location of the axle.  What this means in layman’s terms is that it keeps the wheels from moving laterally and to ensure that they only move forward and backward.

A JKS track bar is actually a quite simple part.  It is a simple bar.  This bar runs sideways underneath the car parallel to the axle.  It connects the body to the axle on the opposite side.  The length of the JKS track bar is adjustable.    One of the features is the bushings that are used on this track bar.  They actually make road noise a lot less quiet while they provide the ultimate off road performance.  The bushings are rubber or polyurethane depending on the needs of the driver.  Track bars made by JKS are zinc plated.
